Katie McGarry – Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1)

Synopsis

„I won’t tell anyone, Echo. I promise.” Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. „You didn’t do that-did you? It was done to you?” No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

So wrong for each other…and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with „freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

Magyarországon megjelent a  Könyvmolyképző Kiadó gondozásában, 2014-ben Katie McGarry – Pushing the Limits – Feszülő húr (Feszülő húr 1.) címmel.

Fülszöveg

Senki sem tudja, mi történt aznap éjjel Echo Emersonnal, amikor a menő fiúval járó népszerű lányból pletykák tárgya, kirekesztett lett, karján hátborzongató sebhelyekkel. Még Echo sem emlékszik a teljes igazságra.

Amikor aztán berobban az életébe Noah Hutchins, a szívdöglesztő, lányfaló, megközelíthetetlen fiú a fekete bőrdzsekijében, és meglepően megértő vele, Echo élete olyan fordulatot vesz, amilyenre sosem gondolt volna.

Valószínűleg semmi közös nincs bennük. Mindketten olyan titkokat rejtegetnek, melyek lehetetlenné tehetik kettejük kapcsolatát. Egymás iránti őrült vonzalmuk mégsem foszlik szét, és Echo felteszi magának a kérdést, hogy meddig FESZÍTHETIK A HÚRT, és mit kockáztatna azért a fiúért, aki talán megtanítja őt ÚJRA SZERETNI.

Véleményem a könyvről

My Review in English

This was an „Oh damn, I have to go to work tomorrow, so I can’t read it all night!” type of book. I found it so gripping that I absolutely couldn’t put it down! The writing style was amazing, and the story is really meaningful.  I loved the characters so much and every one of them felt so real. They made mistakes but they tried to fix them despite their hard lives. They fought for each other, fought for something better, something normal and yes, sometimes they fought against losing their own minds.

Echo Emerson once was a popular girl with lots of friends, but two years ago things have changed and her world went upside down. Her parents divorced, her babysitter became her step-mother, and her older brother Aires died in the Middle East. But the event what caused the big change in her life went in a blur. She only knows that two days later she woke up in the hospital with scars on both of her arms and with a restraining order in place against her mother, but she doesn’t remember anything from that night. Because of this “incident” she lost most of her friends and she has been mandated by the State to attend therapy sessions at school. (BTW the school therapist, Mrs. Collins was one of my favorite characters. I loved her sense of humor, her retro rock band T-shirts collection and that sometimes she is a little crazy, too. :))

Echo’s life changes again, when she is assigned to tutor the resident bad-boy, Noah Hutchins. Noah is an amazing character even with his own deep scars. A few years ago he lost his parents in an accident. After that he and his little brothers got into the foster system separated and he is able to see them only rarely. His dream is to get his brothers back and reunite what’s left of his family. Although at the beginning isn’t all going smoothly between Echo and Noah but after some time they realize they have so much in common and they try to solve their problems together.

I loved Echo and Noah so much! They are so brave and tough and they had the perfect chemistry. From the first line of this book, I was hooked. I see a lot of opportunities in these characters and I would like to read much more Echo & Noah stories. I hope Katie McGarry will publish a lot more of their stories beside Breaking the Rules which I also truly loved! This whole series is amazing and one of my favorites in YA genre. I higly recommend it!

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“Her shoulders never shook. No tears streamed down her face. The worst type of crying wasn’t the kind everyone could see–the wailing on street corners, the tearing at clothes. No, the worst kind happened when your soul wept and no matter what you did, there was no way to comfort it. A section withered and became a scar on the part of your soul that survived. For people like me and Echo, our souls contained more scar tissue than life.”

„This girl owned my soul and stole my heart. She’d opened herself to me, giving me love and never asked for anything in return.”

“Luke used to give me butterflies. Noah spawned mutant pterodactyls.”

“It had been so long since I’d let myself fall for anybody. I gazed into her beautiful green eyes and her fear melted. A shy smile tugged at her lips and at my heart. Fuck me and the rest of the world, I was in love.”

“So what does this mean for us?”
I lowered my forehead to hers. “It means you’re mine.

“I’ll always save you.” Because I would. I’d move heaven and earth. I’d willingly walk into hell and stay there. I’d give up anything and everything for him.”

“…growing up means making tough choices, and doing the right thing doesn’t necessarily mean doing the thing that feels good.”
