Véleményem a könyvről

Nem fogok hazudni, leginkább nyomasztónak éreztem ezt a könyvet. Kicsit olyan volt, mint azokban a western filmekben, mikor valamelyik aranyásó meggyújtja a tíz méter hosszú gyújtózsinórt, és a szikra hosszan el kezd kúszni a dinamit felé. Emiatt az aranyos részeknél is folyton azt vártam, hogy mikor fog robbanni az egész. Az egész könyv egy hihetetlen nagy érzelmi hullámvasút volt, de közben meg egy fájdalmas, csodálatos, őrült szerelem története. Nagyon sok érzelmet váltott ki belőlem, de főleg folyamatosan azt a frusztrációt és feszültséget éreztem, amit Maggie. Ebből a szempontból csillagos ötöst kap az írónő, de pont emiatt a folyamatos rossz érzés miatt, néha kétségeim támadtak, hogy egyáltalán tetszik-e nekem ez a könyv.

Maggie egy teljesen átlagos gimnazista, jó tanulmányi eredménnyel, jó sportteljesítménnyel, barátokkal és szerető családdal, mondhatni szinte unalmas élettel. Egy nap azonban szó szerint beleütközik az új csendes, rejtélyes szívdöglesztő diákba, aki nemrég költözött Floridából Virginiába. Bár a srác nagyon zárkózott, Maggie mégis lát benne valamit, és megpróbálja lebontani a falat, amelyet a fiú maga köré húzott. Szép lassan a barátság románccá alakul, azonban ez szó szerint egy mindent elsöprő szerelem, ugyanis kapcsolatuk akaratlanul is keresztüldübörög mindenen és mindenkin, aki a közelükben van. Maggienek hamar rá kell döbbennie, hogy Claynek problémái vannak, azonban a folyamatos hangulatingadozásai, a hirtelen felindulásai, az őrült viselkedése mellett igazán nagyon szereti Maggiet, ez teljesen nyilvánvaló. A lány rendkívül nehéz helyzetben van, mert egyszerűen nem tudja, hogy hogyan segítsen Claynek. Vajon elég-e a szerelme, hogy a sötétség helyett a fényben tudjon maradni a fiú? És kérdés, hogy érdemes feláldozni és eltaszítani mindenki mást aki fontos számára a szerelemért?

Az ilyen történetek olvasása során néha elgondolkozom, hogy én mit tennék a főszereplő helyében. Mindenki szeretné hinni, hogy ő igenis olyan ember, aki a fiú mellett maradna, bármi történjék is. De valóban így lenne? Vajon hol a határa az önzetlenségnek és annak, hogy egy jobb életet, jobb társat akarj magadnak? A lány szerepébe képtelen vagyok magamat képzelni, viszont a szülők és barátok helyében én is egy jobb életet akarnék a lányomnak/barátomnak. Mert egy ilyen kapcsolat bizonytalan, veszélyes és érzelmileg teljesen kimerítő akkor is, ha a szerelem része csodákkal teli.

A szereplőket megkedveltem. Maggie szerintem nagyon jó karakter, annak ellenére, hogy a döntései szinte minden esetben megkérdőjelezhetőek voltak. Clayt borzasztóan sajnáltam, mert igazán jó srác, és éreztem, hogy mennyire kétségbeesetten szeretne normális, átlagos életet élni. A könyv stílusa is élvezhető, a mondanivalója pedig őszintén elgondolkodtató volt. Nem terveztem, hogy tovább fogom olvasni a sorozatot, de mindenképpen kíváncsi vagyok, hogy egy ilyen típusú kapcsolatban létezhet-e Happy End. Szóval hamarosan jövök majd a Light in the Shadows értékelésemmel 🙂

My Review in English

I will not going to lie, this book was mostly depressing. It was like in a western movie when someone lit the dynamite fuse and you just wait for the explosion. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, but it was also a story of a beautiful, painful, crazy love. My emotions were all over the place after reading this book. I felt every frustration and tension that Maggie felt, so from this view the author got big 5 stars. However, exactly because of this constant bad feeling, sometimes it became questionable if I liked this book at all.

Maggie is an ordinary high school senior. She has good grades, involved in sports, she has good friends and a loving family.  She has an average, almost boring life. One day she literally ran into the quiet, mysterious, hot new student, who just transferred from a school in Florida to Virginia. Although the boy is really distant, Maggie sees something special in Clay, and she tries to break him out of his shell. Their friendship slowly became romance, but Maggie quickly realizes Clay has some issues. Beside his mood swings, his anger, his highs and lows, it is a really beautiful, overwhelming love. But the question is if Maggie’s love is enough for keeping him in the light? Is it worth sacrificing everything and everyone you’ve ever loved, for a boy?

Sometimes, when I read a book like this, I start wondering that where is the borderline between the selflessness and the fact, that you want a better life, with a better partner? Everybody wants to think, that she/he is the person, who would stay beside the other in every situation. But is it the truth? I can’t imagine what would I do if I were Maggie, but if I think with a parent’s or a friend’s head, I absolutely would want a better future for her, because a relationship like that could be extremely uncertain, dangerous and emotionally exhausting, even when it is full of beauty.

I loved the characters of this book, although Maggie made a lot of mistakes and bad choices. I felt really bad for Clay, because I saw his desperate efforts to feel normal.  The writing was great and the story really puts things in perspective. I was not sure that I would like to read the next book, but now I desperately want to know that is there a chance for happy ending in a relationship like this.  So sometimes soon I will come with  my Light in the Shadows review. 🙂
