Ez egy rendkívüli módon különleges könyv volt, de hazudnék, ha azt mondanám, hogy ez volt a kedvencem. Nem mindig kötött le teljesen, voltak benne nem túl izgalmas részek és a nyelvezete sem volt annyira könnyen emészthető. De azért határozottan egyedülálló volt és megérte elolvasni. Azoknak ajánlanám leginkább, akik szerették Rainbow Rowell: Eleanor és Park-ot, mert talán az eddig általam olvasott könyvek közül arra hasonlít leginkább, bár le kell szögeznem, hogy ez sokkal jobban tetszett! Számomra picit ez is a „furcsa” kategóriába esett.

Egy cseppet sem átlagos ikerpárról szól a történet. Mind a ketten művészlelkek, de leginkább Noah, aki kitűnik, mert már 13 évesen is valami elképesztően fest (egyébként a könyvben szereplő összes rajz és festmény valami hihetetlenül szépen le van írva, mintha csak magam előtt láttam volna mindet!). Jude művészhajlama nem olyan kiemelkedő, csupán a titokban készített homokszobrai árulják el milyen tehetség lapul benne is. Az anyuka mindkettejüket egy művészeti gimibe szeretné beíratni, de igazán csak Noah lelkesedik érte. Aztán jön a megdöbbentő fordulat – csak egyikük kerül be. Így kezdődik a történet.

A sztori két idősíkon játszódik. Noah szemszöge 13-14 évesen, míg Jude fejezetei három évvel később játszódnak. Mindketten nagyon furcsa gyerekek. Noah folyton rajzol és fest, még képzeletben is, és a fejében van egy „Láthatatlan Múzeum” ahova folyton képeket pakol be gondolatban (amúgy ezek néha igazán viccesek), míg Jude képzeletben beszélget a halott Nagymamájával, hisz mindenféle babonában, varázslatban…stb. A könyv elején érezzük, hogy milyen eszméletlenül szoros a kapcsolat Noah és Jude között, az iker kapocs tényleg nagyon szépen le van írva. Szinte együtt lélegeznek, együtt gondolkoznak. De aztán több dolog miatt is az életük más fordulatot vesz és évekig nem is beszélnek egymással, teljesen elszakadnak egymástól. Nagyon-nagyon sok a könyvben a titok, és sokszor legszívesebben csak megráztam volna a szereplőket, hogy ne titkolózzanak és ne viselkedjenek ennyire gyerekesen.

A könyv különlegessége az, hogy bár más idősíkon játszódnak a fejezetek, mégis még a különböző időkben is kereszteződnek a szálak (néha egy-egy szereplővel, néha egy-egy szituációval, főleg Noah és Jude ikerkapcsában). Ehhez hasonlót sem olvastam még soha. Noah fejezetei sokkal jobban tetszettek. Ő egy hihetetlenül tehetséges fiú, aki a szomszéd fiúba szerelmes, míg valamiért Jude a legtöbbször szimplán idegesített. Amennyire el volt húzva sokszor a történet, a végét legalább annyira összecsapottnak érzetem. Nagyjából öt oldalon lezárul az összes szál. Bár nem vagyok annyira oda az ilyen jellegű könyvekért, azért nem bántam meg, hogy elolvastam.

My Review in English

This was an exceptionally special book. Despite there were less exciting parts of the story where it couldn’t hold my full attention, I liked it, because it was really unique and it was worth the read. I recommend this book for everyone who liked Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell because I think that book has a little similar writing style (But I have to tell you, that I liked this book so much more!).

This book is about Noah and Jude, twin brother and sister. Both of them are artist but mostly Noah, who excels in painting. In the beginning of the story he is only 13 years old and he already creates magnificent paintings (By the way every single drawing and painting was described beautifully; I almost saw them in my mind). Jude’s interest about art is not so powerful, only her secret sand sculptures tell us how talented she is. Their mom wants to attend both of them to an art school but after an unexpected turn only one of them gets in. This is where the story begins.

The story takes place on two timelines. We read Noah’s point of view when he is 13-14 years old, Jude’s chapters takes place 3 years later. They both are little weird kids. Noah draws and paints all the time. If there is no other way, he paints in his head (he has also an ‘Invisible Museum’ where he puts his imaginary painting, which are sometimes really funny), while Jude is talking with her dead grandmother in her head and she believes a lot of superstition and magic.

At the beginning of the story we feel the strong connection between the twins. They thinks together, they breathe together. But because of many reasons their life takes different turns, and they don’t speak with each other for years. There are a lot of secrets in this book. Often I wanted to just shake the characters and shout to them: “Just tell the truth, and don’t be so stupid!”. Sometimes I was really angry with their decisions.

Maybe the most special thing about this book was that in the different timelines the treads still could intersect (sometimes with characters, sometimes with situations and mostly in Noah’s and Jude’s twin-connection). I have never read any similar to this book! For some reason I loved Noah’s chapters so much more. He is really talented and he is in love with the boy next door, Jude mostly just annoyed me. Despite that this story was so extend, the end of the book has so quick closure. In about five pages every thread closed. I not particularly liked the writing style but I absolutely don’t regret to read this book because it was really unique.

„I gave up practically the whole world for you,” I tell him, walking through the front door of my own love story. “The sun, stars, ocean, trees, everything, I gave it all up for you.”

“When people fall in love, they burst into flames.”

„Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story.”

“Meeting your soul mate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before – you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall,the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.”
