Jennifer L. Armentrout – Obsidian (Lux #1)

Synopsis

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Magyarországon 2013-ban jelent meg a Könyvmolyképző Kiadó gondozásában Obszidián (Luxen 1.) címmel.

Véleményem a könyvről

Pont a mai napon jelent meg a hír, miszerint a forgatókönyvet Ava Dellaria a Kedves Halottak című könyv szerzője fogja írni. A produkciót a Sierra Pictures fogja finanszírozni, Mudd’s Russ Smith és Lianne Halfon vezetésével. My Review in English

This is the book that always came in my way in the book world. If in one year I haven’t met with the name of Daemon Black about two hundred times, maybe not even once. So this is the reason why this book was on my book-bucket list for a long time, but I always just put it back and back on my TBR list. I can honestly say, that it was a huge mistake. 🙂

The main character of the book is Katy, who has to move to West-Virginia from Florida with her mother after her dad passes away. Next door lives a pair of twins. The girl, Dee immediately befriends Katy and they grow really close pretty soon, but the boy, Daemon… Yeah he is a tougher nut to crack.   He is really arrogant, rude and he is hot and cold towards Katy. Meanwhile it turns out that strange things happen in this little town, all the time. People disappear, suspicious men in black suits lurking on the streets and oh by the way the hot, sassy guy next door can stop trucks before they run over girls. It turns out Daemon and his sister are both aliens with superpowers. But there is a little fly in the ointment, because if a Luxen uses one of its abilities, it leaves a “trace” on the human nearby. So when Daemon stops the truck before it would hit Katy, he also leaves a trace on her, which makes her immediately noticeable for the enemies of the Luxens, the Arum, who came to Earth at the same time when Luxens, and they are also aliens, just the bad type of them. Because of the trace Katy is stuck with Daemon until her trace fades away.

I think the basic idea, the Lux – the light-, is brilliant. I loved the superpowers and I really liked the main characters. And not just Daemon *sigh*, but Katy too, she is a really badass chick. 🙂 I really loved the teasing between her and Daemon.

Originally I gave the first part of this series 4.5 stars, because strangely it couldn’t captivate me as much as I expected.  I only felt Katy’s character developed enough. Dee was nice but I couldn’t feel her close enough to me, the other characters were forgettable, and I found Daemon too mysterious. He was a really good character but he couldn’t become a book boyfriend for me, YET. But since then I already read the first three books of this series (I am currently reading Origin), and I can truly say, that this is absolutely a five stars series and it captivated me. And I can also say that Daemon Black is definitely a super book boyfriend. This series is really gripping and the author has a really good sense of humor, too.

So I liked this book (and the whole series) very much and I should have read this one soooo much sooner! 🙂 So I highly recommend it for everyone who hesitated until now to pick up this series. But warning: it is really addictive! 🙂

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

„Welcome to West Virginia, the land of lost models.”

„Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.”

„Jesus, you guys make Superman look lame.”

“Yeah, it’s kind of a hobby. What’s yours? Kicking puppies?”

„His hands slid down the wall, stopping beside my hips.
“I bet you think about me all the time. Nonstop.”
“You’re insane.” I pressed back against the wall, breathless.
“You probably even dream about me.” His gaze lowered to my mouth. I felt my lips part.
“I bet you even write my name in your notebooks, over and over again, with a little heart drawn around it.”
I laughed. “In your dreams, Daemon. You’re the last person I think—”
Daemon kissed me.

„Swimming was the last thing I wanted to do. Drowning him? Maybe.”

„In your dreams, Kitten. – He smirked. – Oh wait, I’m already starring in those, aren’t I? –
I rolled my eyes. -Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares.”

„To Daemon, my arrival was the beginning of the end. The apocalypse. Kat-mageddon.”

„Throughout the day before, several teachers had given me weird looks. Today, one of the coaches I passed on the way to the cafeteria stopped in the middle of the hall and looked me up and down. Either he was a perv or an alien. Or both, which would be a winning combination.”

„Not all of us have control over what we can do. Some struggle with their abilities.”
„But you do?”
„I’m just that awesome.”

„Why are you such an ass?” The words came out before I could think twice.
„Everyone has to excel at something, right?”
„Well, you’re doing a great job.”

“You’re perfect for me,” I whispered in my own language.”
