L.H. Cosway – Still Life with Strings

Sziasztok! Boldog Szent Patrik napot mindenkinek! Remélem nektek is tetszeni fog! 💓

Néhány szó a Szent Patrik napról

Szent Patrik napja évente tartott ünnep Szent Patrik, Írország egyik védőszentje tiszteletére, az írek nemzeti ünnepe. Március 17-én tartják, azon a napon, melyen a hagyomány szerint Patrik meghalt. A 17. századi vallási ünnep mára különböző fesztiválok palettájává alakult, és világszerte ezen a napon az emberek parádékkal, különleges ételekkel, zenével, tánccal és sok-sok zöld színnel ünneplik az Ír kultúrát.

A világ több mint 240 emblematikus épülete (köztük a párizsi Eiffel-torony és a sydney-i operaház) mellett Magyarországon ma este a Lánchíd, a Müpa, a Tüskecsarnok és a Bank Center épülete is zöld díszkivilágítást kap Szent Patrik napja alkalmából, illetve vasárnap – immáron hetedik alkalommal – felvonulással is megünnepeljük itthon az Ír kultúrát. 🙂

Synopsis

My name is Jade Lennon and I stand still for money.

The night I saw Shane Arthur watching me everything changed. A man in a suit always catches my eye, but it was the way he looked at me that was different. Like he knew me or something. He didn’t know me, especially not in my costume. My sobriety rests on staying away from men, but there was something about him that made me throw caution to the wind.

After all, I was never going to see him again, right?

Wrong.

Standing still isn’t the only way I make my money. I also bartend at a concert hall. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Shane was going to show up there. Not only that, but he’s the most recent addition to the orchestra. So now on a daily basis I have to resist one of the most beautiful men I’ve ever met and he plays the violin. For me that’s one hell of a deadly cocktail.

He wants me to teach him how to live. I’m not sure how much a twenty-six year old recovering alcoholic who works in a bar and moonlights as a living statue can teach a world class concert violinist, but I’m sure going to try.

Still Life with Strings is a story of music, art, sex, magical realism, and romance that you will never forget.

Not suitable for readers under 18 years. Contains strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.

My Review in English

After a long day at work I sat down, and picked up this book. Then suddenly a magical thing happened. Somewhere music started, I heard the sound of a beautiful violin than the letters suddenly flew up from the book and they started an enchanting dance to the rhythm of the song. Than the notes flying out from the violin have joined to the fabled waltz of the letters, and colliding with them together they transformed into little birds. After that the music stopped, and only the colorful feathers remained, reminding me of this breathtaking experience.

Sadly, I’m not even close as talented as L. H. Cosway, but if someone picks up this unbelievably unique book may experience similar magical moments, because the imagination of the heroine, Jade leads us to lands where snowflakes can turn into little diamonds, and a concert hall may transform into a magnificent sail boat.

Jade often escapes into these exceptional imaginations, as she doesn’t have an easy life. She’s the guardian of her three younger siblings, she has to cope with everything almost alone, and a tragic event in the past also casts a shadow on her life. But when she transforms into a living statue on the streets of Dublin, she can become someone else. While she becomes ‘The Blue Lady’, she has no worries, just the immobility and her unique thoughts in her mind. But one night fate puts a handsome violinist in her path. And if fate thinks that two people’s paths have to cross each other over and over again, than it’s will can’t and should not be denied.

This book was undeniably unique, and it was the best that I’ve read by the Author so far, without a question. I really liked the characters, this incredibly beautiful story carried a lot of depth and message, and the writing was incredibly mesmerizing and outstanding. This is the kind of story that you cannot compare to anything. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, still I honestly recommend it to everyone, and I think I found a new favorite in it.

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“We all see a lot when we decide to truly look.”

“To be a muse is to be a wonder in someone else’s eyes, flaws and all.”

“Don’t say you’ll try. Say you’ll succeed. Trying means you’re giving yourself the option to fail. Don’t give yourself that option.”

“You had this expression on your face like you were imagining heaven.”

“It was just an ordinary night. He didn’t think anything extraordinary would happen. Until it did. Turning a corner onto the bustling night time street, he saw her all in blue. The woman from his painting was a living, breathing thing… and she was so completely still.”

“A picture is just a picture, but add music and there’s emotion. There’s a story.”

“You live in the
real world, Jade, and you don’t know how desperate I am to join you.”

“I think I might have dreamt you.”

“(…) when everything else in life fails, there still has to be music.”
