Már korábban is említettem, hogy nem igazán szoktam elolvasni a fülszövegeket, és ezúttal is csupán vakon megbízva Mia Sheridan tehetségében ugrottam fejest ebbe a csodálatos utazásba. Pontosan ez az oka annak, hogy nem tudtam, hogy ez alkalommal egy Young Adult könyvet olvashatok a szerzőtől, azonban az írónő ezúttal sem okozott csalódást, ugyanis ez alkalommal is egy gyönyörűséges, szívszorító történettel ajándékozott meg. Imádtam minden oldalt, minden sort, minden betűt! Szívszaggató, lélekkel teli és hihetetlenül magával ragadó volt ez a könyv. Mia Sheridan az egyik kedvenc írónőm és az írásmódja olyannyira gyönyörű és rabul ejtő, hogy egyszerűen képtelen voltam elszakadni Kyland és Tenleigh történetétől, amíg az utolsó oldalra nem értem.

A történet alapjaiban rázta meg a lelkemet, és nem az események, hanem a szereplők háttere miatt. A történet az Appalache-hegységben, egy kis bányászvárosban játszódik. A városkában általános a munkanélküliség, a szegénység, a kilátástalanság. Ezen a szomorú, de ugyanakkor természetileg gyönyörű helyen él teljes mélyszegénységben Kyland és Tenleigh, akik mindketten végzősök a helyi gimnáziumban. Az életből, amelyben mindennapos az éhezés és ahol a fűtés is luxusnak számít, az egyetlen kiutat a Tyton Coal Scholarship jelentheti, amely teljes ösztöndíjat biztosít bármelyik egyetemre. Ezt a díjat évente a legjobban teljesítő végzős nyeri el.

Kyland és Tenleigh mindketten nehéz életet élnek. Kyland elvesztette édesapját és bátyját, miután egy néhány évvel korábbi baleset során beszakadt a bánya, Tenleigh pedig nővérével és mentálisan beteg édesanyjával él nem messze a fiútól egy lakókocsiban. Miután a lány segít a fiúnak kikerülni egy szorult helyzetből, amely során Tenleigh elveszíti a munkáját, Kyland felelősnek érzi magát a lányért, és vigyáz rá ahogy tud. Szépen lassan összebarátkoznak, majd szerelembe esnek. De mi történik, ha mindketten ugyanazért az ösztöndíjért indulnak? Mindketten ugyanazért a célért küzdették végig a gimnázium 4 évét, és mindketten csak egy jegyet szeretnének egy jobb élet felé.

Kyland és Tenleigh karaktere egyszerűen lenyűgöző volt. Az az küzdés, kitartás, odaadás, amely jellemzi őket, rendkívüli és példátlan. Az írónő csodálatosan fogalmaz meg minden gondolatot, fájdalmat, örömöt. Szinte láttam magam előtt Kyland és Tenleigh küzdelmeit, melyben egymásnak köszönhetően mégis sikerül megtalálniuk a fényt a legsötétebb napokon is. Tényleg gyönyörűen megírt történet, amely végül a szívem legmélyébe ásta be magát. A legőszintébben ajánlom! 

A Sign of Love sorozatról

A sorozat minden részét egy-egy csillagjegy inspirálta. Mia Sheridan tervezi, hogy mind a 12 csillagjegy könyvét megírja. A Leo az oroszlán, a Stinger a skorpió, az Archer’s Voice a nyilas, a Becoming Calder a vízöntő, a Kyland a bika, a Grayson’s Vow pedig a mérleg jegyében íródott. 2016 március 26-án érkezik a sorozat legújabb kötetet Midnight Lily címmel, amelyet a szűz csillagjegye ihletett. El sem tudom mondani, hogy mennyire várom! 🙂 A kötetetek önállóan olvashatók és nem függenek össze. Mindegyik különböző szereplőkről szól, ez alól kivétel a Leo és a Leo’s Chance valamint a Becoming Calder és a Finding Eden.

My Review in English

I already mentioned that usually I don’t read blurbs and this was also the case with this book. I just trusted blindly in Mia Sheridan’s talent and I jumped into this adventure without any knowledge about the book. This is why I didn’t know that it will be a Young Adult book (at least the first three-quarter of the book). And it was so brilliant and so heartbreakingly beautiful! I loved every page, every line, every word! It was heart-wrenching and soulful and so-so capturing. Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite authors and her writing style is so stunning and so engaging that I sit down and couldn’t broke away from the story of Kyland and Tenleigh until I finished it!

The story shook my soul at the foundations. And not just with the plotline but with the background of the characters. The story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains in a little mining town. In this little town the unemployment, the poverty and the hopelessness is part of the everyday life. At this sad but naturally beautiful place live in deep poverty Kyland and Tenleigh who are both seniors in the local high school. From this sad life where the starving is ordinary and the heating is luxury, the only escape could be the Tyton Coal Scholarship which gives a full college scholarship to one senior in every year.

Kyland and Tenleigh both live hard life. Kyland lost his father and his brother in a mine accident a few years back when a mine explosion happened, and Tenleigh lives not too far from him in a trailer with her sister and her mentally ill mother. One day when the girl helps out Kyland from a troubled situation she loses her job. After that Kyland feels himself really guilty so he decides that he will look after Tenleigh and he will help her as he can. Slowly they become friends and they fall in love. But what happens when the only chance to leave the poverty and pain the same scholarship for both of them? They both fought their battles for four years in high school for this one and only chance and they both just want a ticket toward a better life.

The character of Kyland and Tenleigh was simply amazing. Their desire to fight, their endurance, and selflessness was extraordinary and unprecedented. The author writes own every thought, every pain, every fear and every joy in a wonderful and authentic way. I almost saw with my own eyes Kyland and Tenleigh’s struggles and the beautiful way how they found the light in the darkest days too, thanks to each other. This was a truly beautiful read and it will stay with me in my heart forever.

About Sign of Love series

Every part of the series was inspired by one of the signs of the zodiac. Mia Sheridan plans to write a book about all of the 12 astrological sign’s. Leo was inspired by the Leo’s-, Stinger the Scorpio’s-, Archer’s Voice the Sagittarius’s-, Becoming Calder the Aquarius’s-, Kyland the Taurus’s-, and Grayson’s Vow the Libra’s legend. The next part of the series, Midnight Lily will be released March 26th, 2016 and it will be based on the astrological sign VIRGO. I can’t tell you how much I wait for it! 🙂 All parts of the series are stand-alone stories (except Leo and Leo’s Chance and Becoming Calder and Finding Eden) with no cross over characters or story lines.
