I despise Erik Winter.

He’s arrogant and cruel—a man I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy—and by some twisted turn of fate, he’s my new Olympic gymnastics coach.

I’ve had to contend with gruff coaches in the past, but Erik is far worse. His stern demeanor complements a body built for intimidation, and his reprimands come from a mouth so cunning, I know it could strip me of my defenses—if I let it.

Though each of us would love to be rid of the other forever, we are bound to each other by need and necessity. I’m his rising star, his best shot at proving himself to his critics. And without a coach, I have zero chance of winning gold in Rio.

The easiest way forward would be to wave a white flag and make peace with the man I’ll be sharing close quarters with for the foreseeable future, but he is intent on war.

Fine. By. Me.

If he pushes me, I’ll push back harder. If he wants to test me, to play with my head, I’ll show him just how many boundaries I’m willing to cross. Because I know it’s not a choice between winning or warring—not if you can have them both. At the end of it all, I plan on leaving Rio with gold around my neck and his icy heart in the palm of my hand.

Okay, I don’t know which R.S. Grey book was the hottest so far, but this story definitely won over the first place and I surely will never think of yoga classes the same way ever again. 😀

This book was different from the other ones by the author from more than one aspect. Both of the main characters were stubborn, hot-headed and sometimes they drove not just each other but also the readers crazy. :)) The hero was specifically dark and enigmatic and I truly can tell that he was able to crawl under my skin, too. But besides all of this, the author’s characteristic sense of humour and some crazy hot scenes also could find their places in this amazing book. 🙂

Although Brie Watson is only 20 years old, she already won two World Gymnastics Championships, but still a dream came true when she has been qualified for the Summer Olympics. Brie came from a really difficult financial background. Her mother had to sacrifice everything to support her daughter’s dream to do this sport on elite level. So Brie fights for the gold medal not just for the glory like the others, but also for the financial security.

Brie arrives at Seattle without money but with big dreams. At last minute the original coach’s son, Erik Winter takes over the team, but when Brie arrives, his greeting is not welcoming at all. So the new (hot, jerk, hard-headed, just pick one :D) coach is starts with a minus point with Brie although she also doesn’t have to go so far for a little sassiness. As time goes by, their battles morphs into lust and sexual tension.

I found the character of the hero and the heroine surprisingly complex, both of them had a well-built background. I loved Brie so much, don’t mention her teammates Lexi, Molly and Rosie (unfortunately we couldn’t learn about June so much). And a big well deserved shout out also goes to Erik’s grandfather who was a really great character. But I will not beat around the bust, Erik was mostly an inscrutable asshole. 😀 Because of this, I was really-really glad that there were chapters from his POV. It was so great to see into his thoughts and learn about why he said and did things the way he did, and during the reading I really became to like him, too.

Overall I really loved this book, and I highly recommend to everyone who would like to read a well written, humorous, steamy romance novel. :))

QUOTES

“He surrounded me, enveloping me in the tenderness I craved from him.”

“I’d been vulnerable and shaking, completely under his thumb. He was destroying me and he loved it. He wanted to rip my heart out for sport, to add it to his collection with all the others. I should have fought him more, but I liked it. I liked the way he ruined me. The game we were playing lit my life on fire—it was clearing out the old, dry portions to make way for new growth.”

“I was playing with fire—no, I wasn’t just playing with fire; I was rolling in it. I was so confident I wouldn’t get burned, I didn’t realize how deep into the flames I’d fallen.”

“I’ll tell you one thing: if you expect love to come when it’s convenient, you’ll be waiting your entire life.”

“You’re a hard man to turn down, Erik.”
I smirked. “And you’re a tough woman to convince.”

“At the end of this, you’re mine.”

“I should have left Brie alone from the very beginning, but now it was too late. She was stubborn and appealing and seductive. I wanted her without thought of the consequences. Somehow in the last few weeks, she’d gone from being a thorn in my side to a desire so constant, it consumed me night and day.”

“Gymnastics is the sport with a strong marriage between body and mind. Your body hesitates in fear and cries out in pain while your mind wills it to push beyond what should be possible. The only thing separating good gymnasts from great gymnasts is the ability to overcome that fear.”

“He was a sweet poison and I was so addicted, I didn’t care that our encounters left me choking for air.”

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
