Megjelent egy új Colleen Hoover regény, és természetesen szokás szerint mindent eldobva azonnal fejest kellett ugranom a történetbe. Szerencsére nem bántam meg, és nekem nagyon tetszett! Imádom, hogy Colleen Hoover is csatlakozott azon kevés szerzők csoportjához, akik nem félnek kilépni a szokásos zsánerükből, és minden műfajban képesek is jót alkotni. Nekem egyébként ez a könyv még jobban is tetszett, mint a Verity.

Leeds és Layla egy esküvőn találkoznak, és egyből szoros köteléket éreznek egymás iránt. Az egyéjszakás kaland végül egy párkapcsolattá fejlődik, és úgy tűnik, hogy minden jó irányba alakul, amikor történik valami olyan, ami minkettőjük életét örökre megváltoztatja. Layla nem az a boldog, furcsa, bohókás lány többé, és a kettejük kapcsolata is nagyon megsínyli a történteket. Leeds bízva abban, hogy helyrehozható a kapcsolatuk, visszaviszi Layla-t arra a helyre, ahol találkoztak, egy jelenleg már üres ’bed and breakfast’ szállásra, a semmi közepén. Azonban az ottlétük furcsa fordulatot vesz, amikor kiderül, hogy talán mégsincsenek egyedül, mert egy elveszett lélek kószál a házban…

Nagyon érdekes volt a könyv felépítése. A jelenben Leeds egy „interjút” ad valakinek, és neki meséli el, hogy hogyan jutottak el addig a pontig, ahonnan már nincs visszaút. Ezeket váltják a múltbeli fejezetek, ahol megismerhetjük a történteket a kezdetektől a végső pontig.

Az egész könyvben számomra nem is a paranormális szál volt a legérdekesebb, hanem a lélektani folyamat, ami Leeds-ben végigment. Nagyon érdekfeszítő volt látni, ahogy elenged bizonyos érzéseket, és átengedi a helyet újaknak. Ahogy végig tudja, hogy nem szabadna megtennie bizonyos dolgokat, és mégsem tud ellenállni a kísértésnek. Ahogy megpróbálja igazolni a tetteit, holott azok külső szemlélőként elég meredekek.

Imádom, hogy Colleen Hoover mindig meg tud lepni, és ez alkalommal is voltak olyan fordulatok a könyvben, amit nem láttam előre. Bár ez alapvetően egy paranormális regény, nagyon erős volt benne a romantikus szál és emellett akadt benne néhány borzongató jelenet is.

Összességében nekem nagyon tetszett ez a könyv, és a szerző bebizonyította, hogy paranormális műfajban is kiemelkedőt tud alkotni. Csupán azt nem értem, hogy ha ez a regény már tavasszal készen volt, akkor miért pont decemberre időzítették a megjelenést. Számomra ez annyira egy október-novemberi könyv lett volna, és valahogy így karácsony előtt egy héttel nem esett annyira jól a lelkemnek. Ettől eltekintve én őszintén ajánlom mindenkinek!

My Review in English

A new Colleen Hoover novel was published, and of course I immediately had to drop everything and dive into the story. Fortunately, I didn’t regret it, and I really liked it! I love that Colleen Hoover has joined the group of those few authors who aren’t afraid to step out of their comfort zone and can also write something outstanding in a different genre than their usual. By the way, I liked this book even more than Verity!

Leeds and Layla meet at a wedding and immediately feel a close bond with each other. The one-night stand eventually evolves into a relationship, and everything seems to be moving in the right direction when something happens that changes their lives forever. Layla’s not that happy, weird, funny girl anymore, and the relationship between them also suffers greatly from what happened. Leeds, hoping that their relationship can be repaired, takes Layla back to the place where they met, to a currently empty bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere. However, their stay takes a strange turn when it turns out that they may not be alone, because there is a lost soul wandering around the house…

The story alternates between past and present. In the present, Leeds gives someone an “interview” and tells him how they got to the point from which there is no return, while in the past we can learn about what happened from the beginning to the final point.

Throughout the book, it was not the paranormal thread that was most interesting to me, but the psychological process that went on in Leeds. It was very fascinating to see him release certain feelings and give way to new ones. As he knows all along, that he shouldn’t do certain things, and yet he can’t resist the temptation. The way he tries to justify his actions, even though they’re quite upsetting to an outside observer.
I love that Colleen Hoover can always surprise me, and this time, there were twists and turns in the book that I didn’t foresee. Although it was basically a paranormal novel, it had a very strong romantic aspect, and it also had a few thrilling scenes.

Overall, I liked this book very much, and the author proved that she could write an outstanding paranormal novel as well. What I don’t understand is, if this novel was ready earlier this year, why was it scheduled for December? For me, this would have been an amazing October-November read, but somehow, a week before Christmas, it didn’t feel so good to my soul. (In this time of the year I prefer books that warm my heart and caress my soul.) Apart from that, I sincerely recommend it to everyone!
