Ginger Scott – How We Deal With Gravity

Synopsis

When her son Max was diagnosed with autism, Avery Abbot’s life changed forever. Her husband left, and her own dreams became a distant fantasy—always second to fighting never-ending battles to make sure Max was given opportunity, love and respect. Finding someone to fight along her side wasn’t even on her list, and she’d come to terms with the fact that she could never be her own priority again.

But a familiar face walking into her life in the form of 25-year-old Mason Street had Avery’s heart waging a war within. Mason was a failure. When he left his hometown five years ago, he was never coming back—it was only a matter of time before his records hit the billboard charts. Women, booze and rock-n-roll—that was it for him. But it seemed fate had a different plan in mind, and with a dropped record contract, little money and nowhere to go, Mason turned to the only family that ever made him feel home—the Abbots.

Avery loved Mason silently for years—until he broke her heart…completely. But time and life have a funny way of changing people, and sometimes second chances are there for a reason. Could this one save them both?

Véleményem a könyvről

Amikor először megérkezik a bárba, a Dusty’s-ba, Mason egyből szembe találja magát Ray lányával, Avery-vel.

My Review in English

Ginger Scott took me on a beautiful emotional journey again and she handed over a story about selflessness, love and second chances.

After Mason arrives back in his hometown after his ephemeral rock star carrier, the only place his heart belongs to is the house of Ray Abbot. Ray always was like a father for him, he was who gave a guitar in his hands at the first time, and Ray’s bar was the place where he could live through his first show, and although he knows that probably he disappointed him with his failure, he also knows that he will be the person who will help him to find the way back to himself.

When he arrives at Ray’s bar at the first time since he left, one of the first people who he meets is Ray’s daughter, Avery. He and Avery attended at the same high school back at the time, and Mason always loved spending his days at the Abbot’s house playing music with Ray and also hiding from the current relationships of her mom, but Avery never attracted his attention that way.  But now years later he has to realize that little “Birdie” is not the shy girl anymore who secretly listened to him while he played the guitar sitting in front of his room, but she became a beautiful, strong-willed women with fiery personality.

Meantime Avery had a son, Max, who is already 5 years old. After he has been diagnosed with autism when he was only one year old, his father, Adam left them, and since then Avery has to deal with all the challenges alone every day relying only on her father and her best friend.

Max is a really special and lovable little boy. It was amazing to see what does Avery for him every single day to make his life as smooth as possible and it was really touching to read about the exceptional dedication what a parent do for a child with autism. All of the characters stole a little piece of my heart and I truly wish that a guy like Mason would exist in reality.

Sometimes this story was a little too fluffy and sugary for me, and this was the main reason why I didn’t gave five stars for this book although it was truly amazing. I felt the character of Mason was a little too dreamy and unrealistic too, although reading about the way how he didn’t even had a second thought about what a mother with an autistic child in his life would mean for his future was truly moving and it completely warmed my heart.

Maybe I would have focused more on Max and maybe it would have been better if the story was less fluffy but I truly loved every single page. Ginger Scott has an amazing writing style and she handled this hard subject with unquestionable talent.

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“Max is always telling me about gravity, and how it pulls two masses together. Gravity. That’s what I’m feeling right now. I’m sure I’m flushed, and despite Dusty’s being filled beyond fire code, I can’t hear the crowd. I’m completely locked to Mason, his eyes squared to mine, and he’s the only thing I see. The background … gone. It’s just Mason.”

“And I’ve never wanted to be someone’s someone. But damn do I want to be her everything.”

“You only get to do now once in your life. Do it right.”

“We’re dreamers. And that’s… that’s a good thing. But sometimes you need to remember about the important things here on the ground. Not just all that tempting stuff that’s up in the clouds.”

“I love that Avery is careful. I love that she puts everyone else first. I love that she fights for her son. I love her son. I love how she believes in me—even when I don’t deserve it. But mostly, I just love Avery Abbot.”

“I was so focused on success, I forgot about the ride. And I missed some pretty great things along the way.”

“Because I have to go back to the beginning and see if I can get shit right this time around. And I’m pretty sure it all starts with Avery Abbot.”

Autism Awareness Month

Earlier I  brought my post about the Autism Awareness Month where I wrote some details about  the second LIFT 4 Autism campaign, where more than 200 authors and bloggers are partnering, donating books and other items to an auction the last week of April. Proceeds from this auction will go directly to the charitable partner, Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), a national non-profit organization dedicated to educating, empowering and supporting families affected by autism. Specifically, our efforts will benefit families served through TACA’s scholarship program to offset medical and therapy costs.

    1. Örülök neki! <3 Most csak $1,26 az Amazonon,szóval mindenképpen megéri rá lecsapni! 🙂 A harmadik könyv, amit a témában fogok hozni A. Meredith Walters Reclaiming the Sand című könyve is csodálatos! <3

  1. Sikerült megszereznem, lányom el is kezdte olvasni. Remélem tetszeni fog neki. Érdekes, már egy csomó könyvet ajánlottam ( Daemont egyenesen tukmáltam rá ), de mégis valahogy ezek a kevésbé nyálas, inkább megindító könyvek tetszenek neki.
A Thousand Boy Kisses-t is nagyon szerette.
    Kerestem a Puddle Jumpingot is.
    Ugye Gréta? 😉

    1. Köszönöm! <3 Remélem a Puddle Jumping is tetszeni fog neki! 🙂 Tudok még sok-sok megindító könyvet ajánlani neki. Például most fejeztem be a K. A. Hancock: Dancing on Broken Glass-t (magyarul is megjelent Üvegszilánkon táncolni címmel). Ott sem marad szem szárazon. 🙂

Most Rainbow Rowellt olvasok és egy felüdülés. Első szerelem, kicsit naiv fiatalok, keresem az utam… semmi nyomasztó. 🙂
Persze szeretem a komolyabb, meginditóbb könyveket is, de időnként jó fellélegezni is. 🙂

🙂 Én most Colleen Hoover Too Late című könyvét olvasom, ami a Wattpadon ingyenesen elérhető. Eddig nagyon teszik, és elég izgalmas. :)) Majd igyekszem hozni róla az értékelésemet is. 🙂 Legyen szép napod! 🙂

🙂 Neked is kellemes hétvégét! <3
