My Review in English
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what to expect from Logan Preston, and I’d never imagined that Jay McLean will outdo Lucas’s story, heck outdo all of her other amazing books with Logan. But she did. It was perfect. It was emotional, raw and honest, and it grabbed my heart from the very beginning.
Logan is the middle child in a big family. He carries grief since he and his siblings lost their mom when he was only 9 years old. He is a troubled kid, who dropped out of high school, who likes parties, girls and to be high all weekend, who has a lot friends still he feels alone, and who can’t find his place in the world. On weekdays he works hard on constructions with his dad and his brother, he jokes around and yeah, sometimes he is an asshole, but inside he struggles. Then one day a new girl comes in town with red hair, sharp tongue, and sad eyes. Although they hate each other at first, then they find a common ground, and find themselves in each other.
This book is not an easy read. It’s emotional, painful and gut-wrenching sometimes and it’s also beautiful. „What’s beneath the bravado, Logan Preston?” I found a broken boy with a beautiful heart and an honest soul. Logan’s character is maybe the most complex of all of Jay’s heroes and heroins. He is so amazingly layered, that Jay took my breath away with him several times. I truly loved Aubrey, too. Especially, when she didn’t take Logan’s shit and she fought back, and I also loved how she tried to found the ground under her feet by herself. She is so brave!
Jay’s writing was amazing as always, I marked so many quotes! Several times I just caught myself reading a perfect line over and over again, moving my lips silently and feeling her words. It’s amazing and this kind of talent is very rare.
Most of the times we want for the hero of a book to be perfect, but Jay McLean showed us, that a high school dropout stoner can be as perfect as anyone else on his own way. Logan Preston stole my heart and his story became one of my favorite books of 2017.
I’m still in “Logan-land” right now and it seems I just can’t move on from this story, that I recommend with all my heart!
My Favorite Quotes From the Book
“I am lost.
I am high, floating.
I am low, beneath the earth’s surface.
I am night.
She is day.
I am darkness.
She is light.
(…)
I am conflict.
Aubrey kisses me again.
And she is hope.“
“She’s so perfectly imperfect, and perfect for me.”
“You know, for a guy who thinks that romance is dead, you sure are romantic, Logan no-middle-name Preston.” His hands land on my hips.
“Only because you believe, Red.”
“In romance?” I ask.
He shakes his head. “In me.”
“My eyes water from the brightness of the lights, and I feel like I’m in heaven… and if this is heaven, I don’t ever want to come down to earth.”
“My world is chaos.
Swirls of water.
Riptides of emotion.
My hand is busted.
And my heart… my heart is looking at me from the other side of the window wondering who the fuck I am and how the fuck she got here.”
