L.H. Cosway – Showmance (Showmance #1)

Damon Atwood was Hollywood’s golden boy. Having won an Oscar at the tender age of thirteen, he had the life many could only dream about. But his success came at a price, and after a short but fruitful film career, he chose to live a life of obscurity on a remote Scottish island. Almost a decade later he’s finally ready to make his return, starting with a lead role in a musical on London’s West End.

As a choreographer’s assistant, Rose Taylor has always faded into the background. She watches shows come to life from the side lines, but has never craved the attention of stardom. When rumours begin circulating of Damon’s involvement in her latest gig, she doesn’t predict how she will be thrust into the limelight, nor how the mysterious and strangely introverted man will need her to teach him how to be a star again.

Rose knows that show crushes don’t last. Actors fall for each other during the intensity of a production, often losing themselves in their roles. These kinds of affairs burn bright and then they fade. The question is, should Rose let herself shine with Damon, or guard her heart from being broken after the final curtain call?

Véleményem a könyvről

My Review in English

One thing is sure, my family certainly got relived that I finished this book, because I drove everyone nuts around me the last few days, because I just couldn’t stop singing the soundtrack of Moulin Rouge. 😀

It was so amazing to take a glimpse into this world and behind the scenes, to see the details of the preparation of a huge production, to learn about the life of the dancers, choreographers, actors and directors. I truly loved it!

The main character of the story is Rose. She is a dance choreographer, who is working as an assistant on the newest production of West End, Moulin Rouge. Unfortunately Rose has a really bad habit: she always falls for the wrong guy, and the cause of her last heartbreak was no other but one of her ex-co-workers, the actor, Blake Winters. After weeks of weeping, her heart finally starts to heal, when the first day of the rehearsals of Moulin Rouge the handsome, mysterious, charismatic but silent Damon Atwood shows up.

As a kid, Damon was the star of Hollywood, with an Oscar under his belt. But because of some reasons he avoided acting, the word of actors and the publicity for years. But now he starts to try to unfold his carrier again, here in London in a theatrical play.

The idea of the main plot line was brilliant! I really loved it! Moreover, I really would have liked it better if more of the story was about the dances, the details of the play, and a little less about the drama between the characters. I loved the characters so much, especially Rose and her roommate Julian, although at the end Daemon’s character also could beautifully unfold.

It was a really entertaining, well written story, that I highly recommend for everyone. And now I have to go to re-watch this movie. 😀 Aww. Ewan McGregor, I am coming! ♥♥♥  🙂

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“I didn’t see Damon as a thing — I saw him as a soul, a person, a being so vital he made the world a better place just by existing within it.”

”He was closed off, never showing much but still just enough to leave you dying for another glimpse.”

“I want all of you, Rose, not a quarter or a third or a fifth. I want everything.”

“I’ll always pick you first, petal.”

“I see you perfectly, and I like what I see. I always will.”

“We fit together perfectly. There was no one else for me. If I couldn’t have Rose, I was condemning myself to a life of halves, and I wanted to live a whole one.”

“The man was such a contradiction, with the rugged good looks of a heartthrob and the personality of a hermit just coming out of hibernation.”

“Sometimes they good ones could break your heart even worse than the bad.”

4.5 – “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”- Stars
