Ez egy nagyon szép történet volt (talán az egyik legszebb amit valaha olvastam), Ash pedig az egyik legkülönlegesebb főszereplő akihez eddig szerencsém volt. Ashnek szinesztéziája van (erről egyből az irodalom érettségire unásig belénk diktált verselemzések jutottak eszembe), de a legelképesztőbb az egészben, hogy utánanéztem és TÉNYLEG létezik ilyen! Hogy valaki több érzékszervét használja mint a többi ember, ha úgy tetszik egy hatodik érzék. Van aki színekként látja a hangokat és az érzelmeket, van aki érzi a hangok ízét, illatát, a tapintását. Lehet, hogy én vagyok nagyon tájékozatlan, de eddig én nem hallottam ilyesmiről, de mint kiderült annyira nem is ritka ez a rendellenesség. Többek között állítólag szinesztéziája volt/van Nikola Teslának, Billy Joelnek és Pharrell Williamsnek (WTF!?) is. Ez valami hihetetlen! Nagyon különleges esetben vannak akik ezek közül több tulajdonsággal rendelkeznek és Ash is ilyen.

Ashton ezt a képességét festésre használja fel (ahogy, mint utóbb kiderült a híres festő Kandinsky is) és valami hihetetlen tehetséggel veti papírra azt, ami a fejében van. Miután egy autóbalesetben elveszíti a kishúgát, önszántából az utcán kezdi el élni az életét. Úgy érzi ő volt a hibás a balesetben, ráadásul sokáig kellett az összeroncsolódott autóban várni a segítségre és azóta nem bírja a zárt tereket. A bátyja mindig szívesen látja, hogy nála fürödjön, egyen vagy néha-néha ott aludjon, de soha nem marad egy éjszakánál tovább a falak miatt. Szinte minden nap lát egy lányt, aki azon az utcán jár el amin meg szokta húzni magát. Egy napon, két ember megtámadja a fiút és a lány a segítségére siet. Ash ennél a pontnál már pont feladni készült az életét, nem is harcol a támadókkal szemben, de mikor a lány is veszélybe kerül, valami erőt vesz rajta és végül ő menti meg a lányt. A lányt Birdnek hívják (ez egyébként csak becenév, eredetileg Annalise a neve). Ő egy balett táncos aki LA-ben próbál szerencsét, ez idáig nem sok sikerrel. Ehhez hozzájárul, hogy bár csodálatosan táncol, a fél arcát sebhelyek borítják, így soha nem válogatják be, pedig mindent feladott azért, hogy itt lehessen. Bird még a szülei haragját is kivívta mikor úgy döntött, hogy otthagyja az egyetemet a tánc kedvéért, így teljesen megszakadt a kapcsolata a családjával. A lány végül hálája jeléül meghívja magához Asht egy Hálaadásnapi vacsorára. Így kezdődik az ő történetük.

Nagyon szerethetőek a főszereplők és Bird legjobb barátait, Jordant és Trevort -Bird „meleg férjeit”- is imádtam. 🙂 Valami csodálatos ahogyan kibontakozik ez a történet, de végig érezhető, hogy Ash teljesen más mint a többi ember. Az ő fejezetei sokszor zavarosak, sokszor viszont teljesen normálisak, de végig érződik, hogy valami megbújik a háttérben és a végén ez is hozza a fordulatot a történetben. Az írónő csodálatosan érzékeltetve írja le mindazt amit Ash lát-hall-érez. Nagyon sok mindenben hasonlított ez a történet a Law of Moses-hoz és mivel az az egyik kedvenc könyvem, így ez a történet is hamar belopta magát a szívembe.

My Review in English

This was a beautiful story, maybe the most beautiful I have ever read, and Ash was the most extraordinary character who I met.  Ash has synesthesia, and the most fascinating thing about this is that it actually exists! That someone use more senses than others, like a 6^th sense. Someone sees the sounds and the emotions like colors, someone can taste the sounds or feel them like a touch. Maybe I was really uninformed but I have never heard about anything like this, and it turned out that it is not so rare that I thought. For example they say that Nicola Tesla, Billy Joel and Pharrell Williams has/had synesthesia, too (WTF!?). This is incredible! Very rarely there are people who have more than one of the listed characteristics of synesthesia, and Ash is one of these people.

Asher uses these kinds of abilities for painting (like the famous painter Kandinsky) and he creates something incredible all the time, when he got a canvas and a paintbrush in his hands. A few years back he lost his sister in a car accident, and after that he starts to live his life on the street. Partly because he blames himself for the accident and he punishes himself this way, and partly because he had to wait so much time in the wrecked car that he cannot stand confined places. His brother always welcomes him in his home and sometimes he stays one or two nights, and eats and showers there, but he can’t stay long because of the walls. Almost every day he sees a girl on the street, during her walk to home. One day two guys attack Asher on that street and he almost wants to give up life when the girl suddenly takes action against the robbers, and with this she puts herself in danger, too. Finally Ash gets some strength and saves the girl. The girl’s name is Bird (this is a nickname, originally her name is Annalise). She is a ballet dancer who tries her luck in LA with not much success so far, partly because of the scars on the half of her face. Bird gave up everything to come to Los Angeles and she also got in a fight with her parents because of this decision. Finally the girl invites Ash to a Thanksgiving dinner for her home to express her gratitude.

The main characters are very loveable and I loved Jordan and Trevor, too, who are Bird’s best friends and the “gay husbands” of hers. J It was incredible how this story was unfolded, and the reader could felt all time that Ash has a really special personality. His chapters were sometimes puzzling but other times perfectly normal. I could feel all the time that something is behind of these changes, and finally this was what brought the twist in the story. The author wrote down amazingly beautiful what Ash sees, hears and feels. It was a little similar with The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon, witch is one of my favorite books so it became clear very quickly that this story also will find the way to my heart very fast.
