 Synopsis

At Twin Oaks Country Club, there are the fortunate ones, and then there are the rest of us: the waiters, the caddies, the valets, and in my case, the cabana girls. Most days, I’m poolside in a pleated skirt, dishing out margaritas to tycoons and titans. It’s not exactly my dream job, but it does come with one perk…

James Ashwood.

He’s my silver lining in a custom black suit.

Besides being a legacy member at the club, he’s a tech mogul and Austin’s most eligible bachelor. Oh, and those dimples? Yeah, they make my stomach dip too.

On good days, I catch his sleek Porsche winding down the tree-lined drive. On better days, I steal a glimpse of his handsome profile as we pass in the hall. And on the absolute best day, I find him alone at the bar, looking for company.

“Come have a seat.”

Those four little words set me down a path I never could have imagined. Private planes, penthouse suites, and temptations around every corner make it impossible to keep my distance. His world feels decadent and wild—but overindulgence comes with a cost. Every kiss comes with strings. Every erotic encounter is a promise I’m not ready to keep.

When I pump the brakes, he hits the gas. James doesn’t want to go slow—he wants a commitment.

And the thing about the fortunate ones?

They’re used to getting what they want.

Véleményem a könyvről

Először is, stipi-stopi James Ashwood!

James Ashwood is a klub tagjai közé tartozik.

My Review in English

Firstly, I call dibs on James Ashwood!! 🙂 So now, that we cleared that, I can shout from the top of my lungs that I loved this book so much! It was sooo good. It was funny, cute and hot, with great characters and hilarious banters. It was a perfection in Rom Com genre.

Brooke is dreamer. She always wanted to travel, to see the world and to work with kids. After she double-majored in Spanish and French she travelled a year and worked as an au pair in France, but since she came back to Texas, she never could find the perfect job. Although she came from “old money”, she still lives in a 10-bedroom co-op house at the campust with a bunch of weird roommates (BTW I loved this!!), and she is working at the Twin Oaks Country Club as a cabana girl serving the ‘fortunate ones’, the rich who loves to spend their money and time there.

James Ashwood is also member of the club. He is every woman’s dream: smart, rich and insanely hot. But he is so much more than that. One late night Brook finds him alone at the bar of the Country Club and they start chatting. Brook is really surprised about how she enjoys the time with the man, but they are too different, in age and also in every other aspects of their lives. But they say opposites attracts, right? 😉

The characters were amazing and I truly loved the contrast between them. James seemed a little cold at the beginning, but his character was truly well-developed and as the time passed I fall in love with him, too! I laughed so much at their banters and I swooned at their sweetest moments. I liked how the second part of the book got a little more serious hue and I loved Brooke’s decision at the end.

R.S. Grey never disappoints, and she was able to bring us another 5 star read again. This book is not just hot and funny, but it teaches us about the importance of following our dreams. I truly loved it and I honestly recommend it!

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“His hair is styled more formally than I’ve seen it, the short waves tamed and smoothed back. He’s sharp edges and dark brows, almost more intimidating than handsome—almost. I don’t want to overplay just how devastatingly handsome he looks. I mean, the heavens do crack open and tiny angels do start singing from above. That part is real, but I’m not sure if the earth really does tilt on its axis or if I’m just feeling unsteady perched on these Manolos. I’ll have to confer with a seismologist at a later date.”

“It’s all about the pants, specifically the derrière, and yes, I realize men have objectified me all day and now I’m doing the same to these unsuspecting golfers, but that’s life, and sometimes it’s pretty fun to be a hypocrite. So, I stare at their butts as much as I want until one of them sees me approaching and nudges his friend. Like dominoes, they turn toward me, anxious for a drink, and I assess them from right to left. Cute…Cuter…Cutest…James.
Shit.

“Can’t a girl break into a neighborhood, sneak onto someone’s property, and leave a gift without being noticed? Isn’t that Santa’s entire MO?”

“What is the fundraiser called? Have I heard of it?
The party doesn’t have a name, and no, you haven’t heard of it.
Who’s throwing it?
The host committee wishes to remain private.
Where is the party located?
That information hasn’t been released to the public at this time.
I’m half-convinced Beth is a robot, like Siri. Her responses are so austere and impersonal. I’ve even attempted to crack a few jokes, and I got crickets in response. I guess my humor doesn’t translate into robot binary. (Good to know in case they one day take over the planet.)”

“I missed you today,” he says, his heated gaze lingering on my body.

I step back, and he follows.

He looks like he’s cornering his prey.

“Apparently not enough to make it to dinner,” I point out icily.

“I called the restaurant and told them I’d be late. Didn’t they tell you?”

I cross my arms and glance away.

“Brooke.” He steps closer and gently lifts my chin, forcing me to look back at him. “Fight with me tomorrow.”

I narrow my eyes, angry with him for shelving this discussion so casually. To him, it doesn’t matter that I sat in that restaurant alone, looking like a fool for nearly two hours. He’s brushing off my anger, stepping closer and forcing his way past my defenses.

“I think I’d like to talk about it now.”

I catch the beginning of a smirk just before he leans in to kiss my cheek.

“Are you sure there isn’t anything you’d rather be doing right now?”

He uncrosses my arms and brings them up over his shoulders then steps closer, towering over me. My arms tighten around his neck, but still, I turn away, keeping my mouth from him. His breath hits my neck and he pulls me taut against his hard body, growing more impatient with every moment I try to resist.

“Brooke,” he whispers huskily.

My eyes flutter closed as he bends and presses a kiss to my cheek, my chin, then lower, tipping my head back so he can reach the smooth recess at the nape of my neck. I shiver and he groans, obviously aware of what his touch is doing to me.
