Rachel Van Dyken – Capture (Seaside Pictures 1.)

Synopsis

Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair.
But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.

Dani lives anything but a normal life.
Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2.
And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime.
But that doesn’t change the fact their parents are dead.
Or that it’s her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.
That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He’s gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.
But that doesn’t stop her from wondering…if things were different…would he want her?

If she was whole, would he be the other half?

Sokáig picit zavarosak voltak a szereplők.

Összességében nekem tetszett. Jól szórakoztam rajta és végig le tudott kötni. Persze voltak benne hibák, de mivel én magamban olyan „hétvégi kikapcsolódásnak tökéletes” kategóriába soroltam, ezeken könnyen felül tudtam emelkedni, és csak élvezni Hollywood világát. 🙂

My Review in English

In some aspects this book was a little similar to the Ruin series because this time I felt again, that the author couldn’t decide if she wants to write a serious kind of book or a sugar sweet romance. This was not a problem for me, I decided that I will go with the last, so I treated this story that way. And in this perspective the book was good! Despite that the characters have tragic pasts and broken souls, the book was funny and sweet with full of hot guys. 😉 (I have seriously no idea how could this author made up so many hot, funny actors and musicians with six-packs, but in the book was minimum 5!!! super book boyfriends).

17 years old Dani loses her parents in a car accident. She is also in the car when it happens, so after another trauma – which triggers her memory of the accident –, she mentally collapses and she literally loses her voice. Her muteness has solely psychological reasons but nobody can help her.  After that she leaves her old life behind, her friends, her boyfriend, the cheerleading and the prom queen title. She moves to her actress sister and her director husband who both are Hollywood stars. After eight months of muteness, her sister has enough to watch Dani wasting her life in a voluntary exile, so she gives her an assistant job in her new movie. It turns out that Dani has to help Hollywood’s hottest heartthrob, Lincoln Green.

It bothered me a little that in the beginning of the story I couldn’t understand for long which character is who and how do they know each other… ect. Of course after some time I could puzzle it out, but I couldn’t understand why it wasn’t explained for the readers in a better way. Since then I figured out that this book is a spin-off of the Seaside series where the characters were main characters, but unfortunately I didn’t read that one. However, I loved the crossover with the Ruin series! :DD In this book Gabe , Wes, Kiersten and Saylor shows up, too! I don’t want to do spoilers, but something turns out about Gabe in the Toxic, which is why he shows up in this book! I found it really hilarious! 😀

All-in-all I really liked this book. I really enjoyed it and it could hold my attention the full time. Of course there were mistakes in the story, but I listed it to the “perfect relaxation for a weekend” category, so I could rise above the mistakes pretty easy, and just enjoy the world of Hollywood. 🙂

My Favorite Quotes From the Book

“Doing this with you can’t be about scratching an itch. I was that guy once, but with you? I want to savor.”

“Acting’s kind of like reading. For one brief moment in time, you can be somebody else. You can feel their pain or rid yourself of yours. You experience life in a completely different way.”

“Something wasn’t quite right about Zane, but he was also really… real, and kind of…
entertaining in a pet-puppy type of way.
You know, if your puppy had a six-pack.
Or looked liked a walking commercial for sex.
Yeah, he definitely needed to not kiss me ever again.”

„I built a fire.”
„You’re from LA, so when you say you built a fire, you have to understand that I assume you hired someone to dig you a hole, throw firewood in it, and light a match.”
„I’m a guy. Playing with matches is basically right up there with discovering your hand can make the shape of a gun.”

4.5 – Savor- Stars
