Volt egy barátnőm, aki először mindig úgy kezdett el könyvet, hogy elolvasta a történet végét. Azt hiszem imádta volna ezt a könyvet, mert ez pontosan így kezdődik, a történet végével. Egy kivégzéssel, amely pontosan kilenc percig tart…

Előre szólok, hogy ez nem egy kis könnyű történet. Kemény, és nyers, sokszor gyomorforgató és megdöbbentő, mégis egy olyan könyv, ami sokáig velem fog maradni. Ez egy 15 éves kislány elrablásának története,a mely már önmagában is egy merész témaválasztás. Valószínűleg ez az oka annak is, hogy összesen háromszor fogtam bele ebben a könyvbe. Első körben elértem a kivégzés végéig, második körben Ginny elrablásáig jutottam. És bár nagyon nem szoktak bejönni ezek az „elrablós” témák, azt is tudtam, hogy a könyves világban ez egy nagyon ismert kötet, és hogy minden ellenérzésem ellenére, el kell olvasnom. És amikor harmadjára vettem kezembe ezt a könyvet, úgy beszippantott a történet döbbenetes valósága, hogy abba sem tudtam hagyni.

I had a friend who always started a book with read the ending first. I think she would have loved this book, because this is exactly how it starts: with the ending. With an execution that takes exactly 9 minutes.

I have to warn you that this is not an easy read. This is raw and upsetting and sometimes shocking and sickening, but this is a kind of book that will stay with me forever. This is a story about an abduction of a 15 years old girl, so the subject itself is very upsetting and venturous. Probably this is the reason why I started to read this book three times. In the first round I reached the end of the execution, in my second attempt I got to Ginny’s abduction. And although usually I don’t like to read books with the subject of kidnapping, I also knew that this book is quite known in the book world and I have to read despite all my revulsion. And when I picked up at the third time the raw and shocking reality of the story captivated me a way that I just couldn’t put it down after that.

P. Dangelico – A Million Different Ways (A Horn Novel, #1)

Mikor az ember több, mint száz könyvet elolvas egy évben, annyira nagy felüdülést tud jelenteni, ha talál egy olyat, ami egy picit másabb, mint az összes többi. Annyira jó volt egy picit egy európai környezetbe tenni egy kis kirándulást, sőt valamiért szinte úgy éreztem, hogy nem csak térben ugrunk el a megszokottól, de időben is, mert utoljára századfordulón írt regényekben találkoztam hasonló szituációkkal. Azonban bár a „egy hatalmas háztartásban dolgozó szolgálólány és a gazdag főúr” felállás idejétmúltnak tűnik, de az illegális bevándorlók kérdése nagyon is mai probléma.

When someone reads more than a hundred books a year, it could be so refreshing to find a book that is really different that the others. It was so great to take a little trip to a European environment and somehow it seemed like we jumped not just in space but in time too, because the last book I read with a similar plotline took place in the XIX. century. Although the “housekeeper who works in a huge household and the rich lord” seems old, the subject of the illegal immigrants really is the problem of today. Continue reading P. Teljesen összetörte a szívemet ez a könyv. Tegnap éjszaka halkan, csöndben magamban nyeltem a hatalmas könnyeimet, hogy ne ébresszek fel senkit. Ez ismét egy felkavaró, gyönyörű történet volt B. N Toler tollából.

Mikor egy többszörös díjnyertes könyvet vesz az ember a kezébe, ráadásul tudva, hogy ezt debütáló kötettel tudta elérni az írónő, az olvasó nem tudja, hogy mire számíthat. Így voltam ezzel én is. És meg kell, hogy mondjam, hogy ez a könyv valóban valami más volt. Nagyon egyedi stílussal íródott, lassan építkező történet, de annyira valódi volt, annyira fájdalmas és hiteles volt, hogy egyszerűen magával ragadott.

When a reader picks up a multi award-winning book, knowing that the author could achieve this with her debut novel, doesn’t know what to expect. This was the case with me, too. And I have to tell you, that this book definitely was something else. It is a slow-building story, written with a really unique writing style, but it was so real, so painful and authentic that it grabbed me from the beginning.
