Volt egy barátnőm, aki először mindig úgy kezdett el könyvet, hogy elolvasta a történet végét. Azt hiszem imádta volna ezt a könyvet, mert ez pontosan így kezdődik, a történet végével. Egy kivégzéssel, amely pontosan kilenc percig tart…

Előre szólok, hogy ez nem egy kis könnyű történet. Kemény, és nyers, sokszor gyomorforgató és megdöbbentő, mégis egy olyan könyv, ami sokáig velem fog maradni. Ez egy 15 éves kislány elrablásának története,a mely már önmagában is egy merész témaválasztás. Valószínűleg ez az oka annak is, hogy összesen háromszor fogtam bele ebben a könyvbe. Első körben elértem a kivégzés végéig, második körben Ginny elrablásáig jutottam. És bár nagyon nem szoktak bejönni ezek az „elrablós” témák, azt is tudtam, hogy a könyves világban ez egy nagyon ismert kötet, és hogy minden ellenérzésem ellenére, el kell olvasnom. És amikor harmadjára vettem kezembe ezt a könyvet, úgy beszippantott a történet döbbenetes valósága, hogy abba sem tudtam hagyni.

Ginny-nek soha nem volt igazán könnyű élete. A szülei lecsúszott drogfüggők, akik soha nem törődtek vele, igazából magára volt utalva már egészen kicsi korától fogva, mégis biztos volt az életében. Jó tanuló volt, volt egy-két barátja is és tisztán látta a jövőjét maga előtt, hogy majd egyetemre megy, és többre viszi majd , mint a szülei..
Azonban egyetlen nap örökre megváltoztatja az életét, amikor 15 évesen gyanútlanul megengedi egy kedves férfinak, hogy hazavigye a motorján, miután a szülei ismét elfelejtkeztek róla. De a motoros férfi nem hazaviszi, hanem egy motoros banda központjába, ahol Ginny a bandavezér Grizz ajándékául szolgál.

Ginny attól a naptól kezdve ott él a bandával a motelben, amely a banda főhadiszállása. Minden egyes nappal amelyet velük tölt, elveszít egy darabkát az előző életéből. Először a nevét és a személyazonosságát, majd a reményt, hogy egyszer majd újra szabad lesz és visszatérhet az életébe, majd végül az erre vonatkozó vágyát is. Ugyanis szépen lassan a banda között barátokra, majd szerelemre lel, így már nem is akar többé hazamenni.

Azt hiszem, hogy ez a könyv a Stockholm szindróma hiteles bemutatásul szolgál. Azonban felvetődik a kérdés, hogy vajon más lett volna-e az egész történet, ha Ginny más életből érkezik, ahol szerető család várja otthon? Valószínűleg igen, bár nem lehetünk biztosak benne. Azonban az is tény, hogy a lánynak az évek során számtalan lehetősége lett volna elszökni, de mégsem tette, hiszen őszintén beleszeretett az elrablójába, aki a férje lett és akitől gyereke is született. És a végén foggal-körömmel harcol azért, hogy kijuttassa a börtönből.

A könyv narrációja igencsak különleges volt, hiszen a főszereplő lány a jelenben meséli el, hogy mi történt a múltban, így morzsánként folyamatosan kapunk információkat, -ha úgy tetszik spoilereket-, a jelenről, így magáról a történet végkimeneteléről is. Mégis akkora fordulatokat is tartogatott a könyv, ami miatt tényleg lesett az állam. Bár a kötet, nem kifejezetten cliffhangerrel zárul, mégis nagyon izgalmas véget ér, ugyanis az írónő, még a lezáráshoz is tartogatott egy igazán nagy fordulatot.

Néhány hónappal az után, hogy elolvastam az első kötetet, végül elég erőt éreztem magamban ahhoz, hogy folytassam a sorozatot. És habár úgy gondolom, hogy a Nine Minutes önmagában is egy kiváló öt csillagos olvasmány, mégis a történet igazi zsenialitása és komplexitása a sorozat második és harmadik kötetében kerül felfejtésre, ugyanis kiderül, hogy semmi és senki nem az aminek látszik. Ráadásul mindezt az írónő briliánsan felépítve, puzzle darabkáról puzzle darabkára, a jelen és múlt között váltakozva adja át. Egyszerűen zseniális, úgyhogy őszintén ajánlom, hogy ne álljatok meg az első könyvnél.

My Review in English

I had a friend who always started a book with read the ending first. I think she would have loved this book, because this is exactly how it starts: with the ending. With an execution that takes exactly 9 minutes.

I have to warn you that this is not an easy read. This is raw and upsetting and sometimes shocking and sickening, but this is a kind of book that will stay with me forever. This is a story about an abduction of a 15 years old girl, so the subject itself is very upsetting and venturous. Probably this is the reason why I started to read this book three times. In the first round I reached the end of the execution, in my second attempt I got to Ginny’s abduction. And although usually I don’t like to read books with the subject of kidnapping, I also knew that this book is quite known in the book world and I have to read despite all my revulsion. And when I picked up at the third time the raw and shocking reality of the story captivated me a way that I just couldn’t put it down after that.

Ginny never had an easy life. Her parents are drug addicts who never cared about her, but despite she had to take care of herself from her very young ages, she was sure about her life. She had good grades at school, she had a few friends, and she saw her future clearly in front of her. She wanted to go to college and she wanted to do so much more with her life than her parents did. But one day changed her life forever, when the 15 years old naive girl let a a kind man to take her home on his motorcycle after her parents forgot about her again. But he didn’t take her to her house but a motel, which was the base of a MC gang, where Ginny served as a gift for the leader of the band, Grizz.

From this day Ginny lives with this gang at the motel. With every day at the motel Ginny loses a piece of herself and from her former life. Firstly, she loses her name and identity, then the hope that she will be free someday and she will be able to return to her former life, and finally the desire for this as well. Because she slowly finds friends and love among the gang and she never wants to go home anymore.

I think this book is an authentic presentation of Stockholm syndrome. But the real question is that would have the story tuned out differently if Ginny comes from another background? Probably yes, but we can’t be sure. But it’s a fact that she could have escape so many times during the years, but she didn’t because she truly fell in love with her captor who became her husband, and the father of her child.

The narration of the book was truly unique, because the main character tells this story -what happened in the past-, in the present. So we get little information pieces here and there (like little spoilers) about the present. Although, the ending of the book is not especially a cliffhanger, but it has a really twist ending because the author kept a really huge turn for the closure, too.

A few months after I read this book I felt the strength in me again, so I picked up the second part of the series. And although Nine Minutes was a great five stars read itself, the true brilliance and complexity of this series is revealed in the second and the third book, because it turns out that nobody and nothing is what is seems. The plot line of the series has been put together puzzle piece by puzzle piece and it alternates between past and present and POV’s of the characters. It’s simply amazing and I highly recommend for everyone not to stop with the first book.
